Beijing's attractions are spread all around the city and suburbs. The traffic jam in the inner city (inner three layers, there are six layers to the city in all divided by circular highways) is horrible for most of the day so stick to a hotel close to the subway stations to get you in and out of the city quickly then hop on a cab to get to where you want to go. Buses aren’t good ideas unless you know Beijing really well. Stay with western hotel chains. Though they may cost more, as least you know what you are getting into since Chinese hotel star rating isn’t consistent at all. A Best Western in Beijing may well end up better than a local five star. Other than the Beijing Duck, there really isn’t anything about Beijing food to recommend as Beijing food doesn’t rate high in China at all. They try to collect regional cuisine from around them just like Shanghai does, but Shanghai does a much better job. If you have the time to spare (a day) for food, then head to neighboring Tianjin for some of the best and cheapest food in the north eastern region (many Beijing residents make day trips to Tianjin just for that reason.) Beijing is for sightseeing, not for food. The last time I was in Beijing, I had 21 meals from five star hotel restaurants to street food vendors, not a single good experience. By comparison, food in Tianjin was great, Shanghai mall food on Nanjing Road was better than the five star experiences in Beijing, Hangzhou and Suzhou food was just exquisite, and Guangdong food can’t be beat for freshness.

I recommend the Beijing City Youth Hostel. It is right accross the street from Beijing's second largest train station. It is much less like a hostel and more like a hotel. And disregard the "Youth" part. People of all ages stay there. They offer both dorms and private rooms at an extremely low price. Plus lots of amenities like internet, pool table, bar, and travel agent.

Bottom line is lack of widespread education. There has to be education be have empathy. There is just low value for life from lack of education & over population. The educated can reason and come to a logical conclusion that women are suffering and to stop the cruelty. That or they need to just start mass gassing rapists, abusers and like men as examples. Right now the Indians don't care to prosecute these men. Just gas them or castrate them in front of crowds. That will get any man thinking twice about abusing women. That's the start to women being treated better and eventually being equal in India.

very difficult question to answer. my opinion, look for foreign based hotel chains. if not, you can try the area near the newly built sports stadium. there is quite a nice hotel there. the food places are nearby, with a few big and famous resturants. my advice, try as much as possible not to take the taxi. Traffic is horrible.
