Because it is a lot easier for these celebrities for travel and get visas for there work. Also under Chinese law it is legal to hold dual citizenship. A lot of counties allow there citizens to to be of dual citizenship. A lot of Chinese celebrities are also moving to Hong Kong simply because holding a Hong Kong identiy (or whatever) card makes it easier for them.

China has only itself to blame if they can't let its citizens hold a dual nationality or citizenship like many other countries around the world. It seems Chinese celebrities are more likely going to ditch it then it comes to terms of working aboard and/or raising a family with a non-Chinese citizen overseas. If China did allow dual citizenship maybe these people would not be so willing to give it up.

If I were them, I will do the same thing. The grass is always greener on the other side. Serious.

US, UK, Australia passports make travel so much easier. Yes, holders of Singapore passports also travel with much more ease in general compared to Chinese ones.

"Is that China really make them shame when they became famous and wants to become a citizen of other countries that offers better welfare and etc."

Maybe. But what made you come up with that idea? I think the Chinese people from China need to have more pride and dignity about themselves and stop migrating to other countries just to hawker on the streets.

Its very hard to for PRC chinese to travel overseas. Visa requirements can be extremely onerous. Singapore immigration visa requirements requires you to photocopy every page of your passports, provide names and address of your school or employ, plus a letter from them to granting you leave to travel to Singapore. Imagine that for countries around the world. Gong Li probably did that for convenience reason. She has an excuse of course, that she married a Singaporean. Looks like I am having a actress wife soon!

I don't agree with what Mr Hex said above, there is a reason why China does not allow duel citizenship, which is understandable from China's own perspective. China has 1.3 billion people, and duel citizenship will increase that number by another billion worldwide. You put more burden on the Chinese government where it already has 1.3 billion people.

Moreover, is not that these Chinese people are willing to give up their citizenship, it truly is what they choose to do. Many Chinese celebrities still retain their own Chinese citizenship. Besides, what does a card tell you anyways, is what in your heart that counts.

Better welfare? These people work for a living. They will have a much better opportunity in the U.S. then in China. Plus, the air is cleaner.

Can you really blame Gong Li to want to be with her husband?

Who would want to live under constant threat of a police state? They give up chinese citizenship because they can. Loosen the control and most of chinese will jump to the thought.

@Richard

Who gave you the right to call her a slut? She has earned her reputation. By the way what reputation do you have?
