Is Google blocked in China???? The main page works but when i try searching something, the page won't load. Has the government permanently blocked Google? I knew about removing GoogleChina but even google.com won't work.
Is it really blocked or just my computer?

Google's operations are having problems, so use Yahoo instead. You are using Yahoo Answers right now, so obviously Yahoo is working for you.

CNN, AP, and other news agencies are reporting that Google services across China are failing. It is not just access to Google's American servers, but also their servers in Hong Kong and elsewhere. Google's mobile internet services are gone completely in China. There are rumors that Google apps like Chrome are experiencing cascading failures.

Google may be initiating this crisis as a way to draw attention to their dispute with the Chinese government. Only internal Google personnel would have the skills to crash so many Google systems simultaneously.

Google is not blocked on China's 3G networks -- not sure why you are having trouble with your iPhone, but this is not a normal problem. Everything else is accurate -- no FB, no Twitter, no YouTube, and very, very slow service and dropped connections on English-language websites.

Denial of Service (DOS) are a common method to attack websites and causes problems. China has the largest number of computer users in the world using pirated software. Pirated software causes no end of problems as they are often targeted to hacking and viruses because many software have protocols that stop pirated software updating itself. Without program date ups it is easy for a bunch of hackers to form a network of zombie computer to do criminal damager to computer systems. Given that most Chinese computer users have Chinese operating systems the odds are that these hackers are of Chinese origin.

I have been having a similar experience to Prince. I get error messages several times each day. Sometimes they are in response to requested searches, but most often they are when I try to access Google's home page.
coolz

it is filtered. even if you are able to log on by vpn, the access is limited and most searches return error page. this is because ccp hacked into google mail accounts primarily targeting two accounts of chinese liberal party members. the gov't does not want to say who did it nor did anything to apprehend the hackers, but the traces are in beijing. the culprits are never exposed nor punished, it was a clear violation and breach of contract. ccp never fulfill the ends of the bargain and therefore is never to be trusted. like when they burned the bodies of the tiananmen massacre so no one on earth will know exactly how many died including innocent people that day. this is how they take care of things.

Yes. At this time, it's being "intermittently" blocked. See:

All Googles are currently blocked while the CCP determines how to hack into the HK-based Google.

here might be your reason

(Google just made statement that it was a change on their own part caused the problem and they are working to fix it)

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-03-30/google-says-its-own-changes-caused-china-disruptions-update1-.html

P.S. Chacha is making up straight lies again.

If CCP really wants to take down an internet company, all they need to do is to deny the internet use through ISPs which are all state owned, or block the access through ISPs. That should shut Google.cn down. If they want to block google.com, they can just block the whole site all together with the national firewall. DOS attack are for hackers who have no real power. If you can turn off the switch to the lights, why do you need to spend more time to cover the light balls up?

Google is in the process of being blocked. The latest Denial of Service (DOS) attack on Google to deny its users from accessing the search results from Google is a grand design conceived by the CCP to humble google and finally force it to close it's operations in China.

No one but Google itself is responsible for the situation that it is in. When Google decided to compromise on its value and ethics statement to get a chunk of Chinese internet market and accommodate CCP's concern on censoring the controversial stuff like Tiananmen Massacre, human rights etc, it should have realized that it is treading a dangerous path. The path to humor CCP is a one way street and there is no turning back. If you do decide to turn back, there will be severe repercussions.

We do hope that other corporates will have learnt critical lessons after Google episode is over. Corporate Social Responsibility, value and ethics don't have any meaning if you want to operate in China. All you need to do is to keep the Communist Party in good humor. Rest of the things will be taken care of very easily.
